Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor 黄帝陵
The Great Huang Di emperor is known as the founder of Chinese civilisation and the father of all Chinese people. According to legend, Huangdi achieved immortality and became a yellow dragon leaving once his clothes which were buried here. The mausoleum has always been a place to worship our ancestors and there are many inscribed tablets from emperors and leaders.
Teapot Mouth Waterfall 黄河壶口瀑布
The Yellow River is the second longest river in China and also known as the cradle of Chinese civilization. Located on the border of Shaanxi and Shan Xi, Teapot Mouth Waterfall is the only yellowish waterfall in the world. The waterfall is 15m high and 20m wide with raging currents as if water is being poured from a huge teapot.
In the morning, we awoke to a huge snowstorm and we had to drive very slowly down the mountains. For safety reasons, we had to be escorted by a traffic police to a highway checkpoint called Nan Ni Wan. Since the highway was closed, we decided to have a play in the snow and have a few warm drinks until it was safe to pass. After that, we were safely escorted through the tunnel and back to the city.
Yan an is one of the poorest regions in China. Over 40 million people still live in cave dwellings called Yao Dong.
Due to its remote location, Yan an served as the hiding place for CCP from 1943 to 1947. Zao Yuan Revolutionary site枣园 is where chairman Mao and other key members of the communist party once lived. Here you can see their living quarters and dining quarters
